From online mapping technology to the latest venture of Google to help homeowners monitor the amount of electricity they use with PowerMeter, the company has been on the forefront of internet technology for a long long time. The much anticipated and now praised Google maps has become a very useful tool for most people who want to see the world as it is and for what it is. Available to the public, it allows people to learn more about the world through maps loaded with all the information they need. They added the ability to see paces of interest with street-view that is possible with extensive mapping and scanning technology that lets you stand in front of the place you were interested in.
PowerMeter, their latest venture to eco-friendly living aims to get power companies to share information they gather from smart-meters that are currently being introduced, replacing older electro mechanical meters that were beginning to fail. These meters had data loggers and micro controllers that gathered information including the usage of electricity and more that can be programmed and re-programmed. These meters then send information to the electric company who would then share that same information they use to compute your electric bill with you and by using Google’s PowerMeter utility be able to see in graphical form the characteristics of your power usage. Such innovative technologies are improving the internet experience and with the addition os social internet functions has transformed the way we use and rely on the internet for almost everything.
