Internet meltdown?

net.jpg

Is this even possible? According to The Business Roundtable which is an association of CEO’s of established US companies, the threat is “urgent and real.” The breakdown of such critical information infrastructure has a 10 to 20% chance of happening in the next ten years. This can be a result of many incidences. It can be natural such as calamities or even man-made disasters such as malicious codes, code errors, or terrorist attacks.

The group also stated that an Internet meltdown, if it would ever happen, will result in reduced productivity. Profits will fall as well as stock prices. Consumer spending will erode and a liquidity crisis has a big possibility of happening. This was also discussed in “Growing Business Dependence on the Internet — New Risks Require CEO Action” – a Business Roundtable report based on earlier risk analyses done by the World Economic Forum in Geneva.

Finding a way into local search can be a very handy way of attracting highly relevant traffic. A lot of search engine marketing professionals will recommend that companies enhance their local search capabilities as a new avenue with the search engines. Local search is one of those areas that many businesses haven’t really thought about, and it’s a good idea to talk to your search engine optimisation company about what is required. You can discuss your local search ideas with our consultants at www.seoconsult.co.uk. How to argue in SEO content

Everyone loves a good argument. It clears the air, it makes things exciting – and it gets the blood pumping. Even when reading, people love to have a well constructed argument presented to them – whether they agree with the opinion or not.

This may be why controversial content often works so well on the internet. Many influential bloggers swear by the technique of featuring an occasional argumentative post. It usually stirs up the conversation, if not a huge amount of controversy, and at its best can get whole sections of the web buzzing. When that buzz is about you, it can do wonders for your site’s traffic and a great SEO blog post can really make a difference. Continue Reading »

SharePoint Server 2010 Access Services

Another SharePoint Server 2010 feature which cannot go unnoticed is the Access Services. Access Services is a service in SharePoint Server 2010 that allows administrators to view, edit, and configure a Microsoft access application within a Web Browser. Access Services settings support backup and recovery, regardless of whether there is a UI setting in Central Administration. However, backup and recovery only apply to service-level and administrative-level settings; end-user content from the Access application is not backed up as part of this process. Access Services has Windows PowerShell functionality that can be used to provide the service that uses settings from a previous backup; configure and manage macro and query setting; manage and configure session management; and configure all the global settings of the service.

SharePoint2010 Quota Template Feature

What is a SharePoint Server 2010 Quota Template?
A SharePoint Server 2010 quota template consists of storage limit values that specify the maximum amount of data that can be stored in a site collection. When the storage limit is reached, a quota template can also trigger an e-mail alert to the site collection administrator. You can create a quota template that can be applied to any site collection in the farm. A quota template can also be applied to a site collection that contains sandboxed solutions. You can limit the maximum usage per day and send a warning e-mail message when the usage limit is approaching. If the maximum usage limit is reached, the sandboxed solution is disabled for the rest of the day, and an e-mail message is sent to the site collection administrator. You can also modify existing quota templates. This allows you to modify storage limits for all of the site collections that use the same quota template. When you modify a quota template, you must then reapply it to existing site collections before the new storage limits are enforced. You can delete a quota template if necessary. However, deleting a quota template will not delete quota values from sites that were created by using the quota template. If you want to remove quotas from all sites by using a specific quota template, you must use the object model or perform a SQL query.

Unleashed: Mozilla Firefox 3

firefox

Aside from Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, Netscape Navigator and other World Wide Web browsers, Mozilla Firefox ranks second as the web browser with most market shares (next to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer).

Compared to Internet Explorer, some people prefer Mozilla Firefox since it has a better capability to block pop-up windows and the user has the freedom to install a wide variety of plug-ins and skins to customize the “feel” of their browsers.

The down-side of this is that the version 2 (and its series) of Firefox uses a lot of memory (100,000k for 5 tabs opened). Now Firefox has a solution to this problem: the all new Mozilla Firefox 3. The creator of the said browser claims that it uses lesser memory, provides more security and is more stable than the rest of the browsers available online.

Internet Down in Mid East and India

No email or PM yet from your family member or business partner in India or the Middle East? Don’t worry, they’re not evading you or anything like that. They’re having a small problem: they have been disconnected from the World Wide Web; and it’s not because of some strict government crackdown or terrorist activity, but rather because of two damaged undersea cables in the Mediterranean.

There was disruption to 70% of the nationwide network in Egypt, and India suffered up to 60% disruption.
UK firms such as British Airways have told the BBC that call centres have been affected by the outage.
Industry experts said it could take up to one week to repair the damaged cables and resume full service.
International telephone calls, which have also been affected, are being rerouted to work around the problem.

Reports are saying that the internet connection will be up within a week or so.

Podcast Raid: Grammar Girl

grammar-girl.jpg

I adore Grammar Girl ! Its a great podcast site for amateur and professional writers. Grammar Girl, which is created by writer and entrepreneur, Mignon Fogarty, offers short, simple, and easy-to-listen to tips regarding grammar and writing. Personally, I love three things about Grammar Girl. One, it offers advice without sounding preachy and condescending. Two, there are transcripts available for every episode. Three, the layout is warm and trendy so that it appeals to browsers of both sexes and varying ages.

I guess most people agree with me since this podcast has also received the following awards:

2007 Winner Best Education Podcast ďż˝ Podcast Awards
2007 Winner Favorite Audio Program ďż˝ Podcast Peer Awards
2006 Winner Best Education Podcast ďż˝ Podcast Peer Awards

SueEasy.com promises suing easy.

sueeasy

Have you ever gone through the difficult, not to mention sluggish, process of suing somebody whether it may be about divorce or medical malpractice?

A newly established Californian website called SueEasy promises “instant” justice to your legal qualms. The website is said to be paired with lawyers and litigants thus, alarming some of the seasoned lawyers present in the country. Most of them question the quality of lawyers working for the website.

Some also are concerned about the people’s responsibility when it comes to suing someone. They said that since suing is now more “accessible” to just about everyone, then most likely, there are some who might abuse the system.
